I spend hundreds of days a year fishing, from long days standing in the rain swinging flies for the elusive Winter Steelhead to days cruising tidewater in the summer sun trying to find the perfect presentation to entice a kamikaze sea-run. But sometimes you just want to say screw it and catch a bunch of fish. Now I will admit that I am sort of a fishing addict, I would fish for suckers in a bathtub if that is all that was available but I can't think of  a much more enjoyable way to spend a warm summer day than fly fishing for Bass and other warm water species.
Although the average Bass in this area is only about 1-2 lbs they are an absolute blast on light tackle and will give even the strongest trout a run for their money in the fighting department.  In addition to being willing biters most warm water fish tend to be prolific breeders making for some unbelievable days on the water. Depending on the time of year there is a mixed bag available to the fly fisherman including Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Carp, White and Black Crappie, and various Perch and Sunfish. All in all its a great way to spend a relaxing day closed to Portland.
